This research determined the dynamics of transformation and degradation that have been generated by the change of land use in a high Andean ecoregion of the department of Cauca, Colombia, that in four decades (1970-2017) has gone from having a family farming to Intensive agriculture with monkey potato cultivation, where economic, social, cultural and environmental implications have been generated in space and time. The analysis starts from the environmental characterization of the eco-region present in the high Andean fringe. Next, a modeling of the dynamics of transformation by land use change is carried out and finally an analysis of data and theoretical and experimental inferences of the environmental sciences that relate biophysical, social and economic factors is presented; Which allowed to characterize the drivers of change that have generated dynamics of transformation and susceptibility to the degradation by the change of the use of the ground. As a result he was able to determine which biophysical factors such as height, slope, climate, soils, vegetation cover, socioeconomic (agricultural policies, protection policies, associativity) have generated both transformation, degradation and conservation of the high Andean eco-region; Which allowed to generate the conceptual and contextual bases for a methodological strategy on land use management in high Andean ecosystems.
